Cassidy said he had few quibbles with his Golden Knights' performance but would look for chances to improve before they play in Florida again in Game 4 on Saturday. "We're not going to beat ourselves up over yesterday's game, we're going to do what we've always done: We're going to look at where we can get better and keep growing our game and hopefully be better in Game 4." Vegas looked as though they had hit the jackpot with their underdog opponents when they sliced through the Panthers in the first two outings.

Tkachuk, who brings an emotional edge and an ability to step up when it matters most, scored two overtime goals on the road against Carolina before sending Florida to the Stanley Cup Final when he netted the series-winning goal with 4.9 seconds left. "We had one goal at the start of the season: get better every day and put ourselves in the opportunity to play for the Stanley Cup, and now we have that chance," said Vegas captain Mark Stone. "I mean, it's Game One of the Stanley Cup Final, you're gonna have some nerves and you're gonna have some excitement," said Panthers defenseman Marc Staal.

NHL roundup: Panthers win in OT, move Leafs to brink
  + stars: | 2023-05-08 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +3 min
The Panthers, who lead the best-of-seven set 3-0, would advance with a home win on Wednesday. Florida also got goals from Anthony Duclair and Carter Verhaeghe, and Aaron Ekblad had two assists. Maple Leafs goalie Ilya Samsonov, who stopped eight shots and allowed no goals, was injured 37 seconds into the second period. Kraken 7, Stars 2Matty Beniers, Alex Wennberg, Eeli Tolvanen and Justin Schultz each had a goal and an assist as Seattle defeated visiting Dallas in Game 3 of their Western Conference semifinal series. Five different players scored second-period goals for the Kraken, who took a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.
"Obviously it feels a lot more like what we've been through in the past," Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe said on a video call with reporters on Monday. The Maple Leafs' win over Tampa Bay in the first round had convinced many that the team, a talented but long-underachieving group, would finally deliver the franchise its first Stanley Cup since 1967. "Our job is to win one hockey game and not get focused or bogged down by anything beyond that," said Keefe. "We can't control the big picture, we can only control one game and give us an opportunity to bring the series back to Toronto (for Game Five)." But the reality for every promoter is that in the world of fickle fans you now need to "Entertain to Survive". Last year the Miami Grand Prix was the hottest ticket in South Beach and, while resale demand has softened, this year's race is again a sellout with 90,000 attending Sunday's race. While the grand prix is the anchor for a weekend of fun, the races themselves are no longer enough to make the event a financial and commercial success. Hard Rock alone hosts three of Florida's biggest sports - the Miami Grand Prix and the Miami Open tennis as well as being home to the NFL's Dolphins. Miami debuted a new driver introduction to the grid that F1 says will be used at eight races this season.
Mandatory Credit: John E. Sokolowski-USA TODAY SportsTORONTO, May 4 (Reuters) - The Toronto Maple Leafs were considered Stanley Cup favourites when the second round began but now have their backs to the wall and are staring at a 2-0 series deficit following a 3-2 loss to the Florida Panthers on Thursday. The Maple Leafs, who will play the next two games on the road, now face an uphill climb as NHL teams that have won the first two games of a best-of-seven playoff series have advanced 86% of the time. To be down 2-0 is not what we want but it's a long series and there's lot of hockey left," said Toronto forward Ryan O'Reilly. "We knew they were going to come out with a big push and they came out good," said Panthers forward Sam Bennett. But the Panthers roared back from a 3-1 series deficit to eliminate Boston and are now surprisingly in complete control while the Maple Leafs are reeling.
Lots of sporting buzz in Miami but can F1 deliver?

Once again in a league of their own, Red Bull have won every grand prix this season, with three of the four races one-two finishes. While Miami can deliver plenty of Monaco like pizzazz, the action on the track could also be similar to Monte Carlo with precious little overtaking. Double world champion Max Verstappen (93) leads Red Bull team mate Sergio Perez (87) in the drivers standings and a resurgent Alonso a distant third on 60 points. Hamilton's team mate George Russell had a tongue-and-cheek solution, forget about Red Bull and dive into the battle for third place. Mandatory Credit: Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY SportsTORONTO, May 2 (Reuters) - The Florida Panthers spoiled the Toronto Maple Leafs' long-awaited return to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs on Tuesday with a 4-2 victory in the opener of their best-of-seven series. From the moment Toronto sealed their place in the second round there has been a palpable buzz all around the city. The Leafs' win over Tampa Bay in the first round had snapped a 19-year playoff series win drought, which was the longest active such streak in the NHL, but the Panthers brought Leafs' fans crashing down to Earth at Scotiabank Arena. So I think those are the kind of things that just happened a step quicker tonight than it was in the previous series. The Panthers doubled their lead eight minutes into the second period when Sam Bennett tipped in Aaron Ekblad's shot from the point.
May 1 (Reuters) - The Florida Panthers, in a bid to prevent their arena from being overrun by Toronto Maple Leafs fans during their second-round Stanley Cup playoff series, are restricting ticket sales for home games to residents of the United States. The Maple Leafs are known for having a devoted fan base that regularly shows up in large numbers when the team, one of seven National Hockey League clubs based in Canada, play on the road. But fans of the Maple Leafs, who are in the second round for the first time since 2004, will now have to seek tickets through the secondary market if they want to cut into the Panthers' home-ice advantage. "Orders by residents outside of the United States will be canceled without notice and refunds given," according to a message on Ticketmaster's website. The Maple Leafs advanced after beating the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games.
"Obviously it's a bit of a monkey off our back and we still got plenty of work to do but this one obviously feels really great," said Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews. Toronto's last postseason series win came long before the arrival of gifted goal scorer Matthews (2016), explosive winger Mitch Marner (2016) and durable captain Tavares (2018). And for once the Maple Leafs, who had gone 0-11 in series-clinching games since they last advanced, gave their eternally optimistic fan base a reason to celebrate. The Tavares goal less than five minutes into overtime allowed the entire Maple Leafs organization and their fan base to breathe a collective sigh of relief. The Maple Leafs will next face the winner of Sunday's game between the top-seeded Boston Bruins and Florida Panthers.
CNN —When the Toronto Maple Leafs last won a playoff series, George W. Bush was the US President, Lance Armstrong was winning Tour de France titles and The Facebook had just been launched. A lot has happened since 2004, and it has been quite the wait for the Maple Leafs. Before Saturday, the Maple Leafs had lost six straight first-round series, in addition to a qualifying-round loss in 2020 during the NHL bubble. In 2004, the Maple Leafs defeated the Ottawa Senators in seven games to advance to the Eastern Conference semifinals. The Maple Leafs will face the winner of Game 7 between the Boston Bruins and Florida Panthers Sunday.
Florida Panthers Upset Record-Setting Boston Bruins

These Boston Bruins have not been accustomed to losing streaks. during the regular season, winning 65 games, a single-season record; claiming the Presidents’ Trophy with a league-high of 135 points, 22 points clear of every other team; and outscoring their opponents by 128 goals. But after all that winning, a three-game losing streak, just their second of the season, came at an inopportune time. The Florida Panthers defeated the Bruins, 4-3, in overtime of Game 7 of their first-round playoff series on Sunday night in Boston to complete a rare comeback from a 3-1 series deficit. And they did so against some of the most formidable opposition in the league’s 106-year history: The Bruins had 43 more points than the Panthers did in the regular season.
By the second period it was clear that this was no ordinary playoff game when Bruins winger David Pastrnak tied the scores, steering a pass between his legs and into the goal in one spectacular motion. Peter Joneleit/Icon Sportswire/Getty Images“It’s a big win,” Panthers’ Sergei Bobrovsky said. The next game is the biggest game, so we have to be ready, be humble, but enjoy tonight. And I’d say it’s a great feeling for sure.”It had seemed unlikely that this playoff series would require a deciding game. It was that kind of game where there was just teams making great plays offensively.”Game 7 will be played in Boston Sunday.

Mandatory Credit: Winslow Townson-USA TODAY SportsApril 20 - Brandon Montour scored twice as a four-goal third period led the visiting Florida Panthers past the Boston Bruins 6-3 in Wednesday's Game 2 of their Eastern Conference opening-round playoff series. Montour is the first defenseman in Panthers history to record a multi-goal game in the postseason. Brad Marchand, Tyler Bertuzzi and Taylor Hall scored for Boston, which won the Presidents' Trophy with an NHL-record 135 points in the regular season. Stars 7, Wild 3Roope Hintz had three goals and an assist to help Dallas even its Western Conference first-round playoff series against visiting Minnesota in Game 2. He worked to the left circle and ripped a screened wrist shot just inside the far post for his first playoff goal.
Not since the Montreal Canadiens beat the Los Angeles Kings in 1993 has the Stanley Cup been paraded through a Canadian city, an ego-deflating run of failure that has scarred a generation of fans. After winning the Stanley Cup in 1967, Maple Leafs defenceman Larry Hillman allegedly jinxed the team, saying they would not win it again until the club settled a contract dispute and paid him the $2,400 plus interest he believed he was owed. The Maple Leafs' big misfortune is playing in the same division as the Boston Bruins, who this season set NHL records for wins (65) and points (135), and the Tampa Bay Lightning, Stanley Cup finalists for the last three years. These two teams are once again hurdles that must be cleared on the way to a Stanley Cup. When the playoffs open on Monday, the Oilers will be the first of the Canadian teams to hit the ice, hosting the Los Angeles Kings in Game One of their best-of-seven series.
